The Pallas Foundation Awards $7,000 Mullen Scholarship to a Student Participating in Arizona State University’s Global Security Initiative

TEMPE, AZ – The Pallas Foundation is pleased to announce the awarding of a $7,000 Mullen Scholarship to Garima "Arya" Yadav, an exceptional student participating in Arizona State University’s Global Security Initiative (GSI). This scholarship is named after Admiral Mike Mullen, the 17th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and part of the Foundation’s commitment to the education and professional development of emerging national security leaders.

Arya Yadav, a Computer Science major and Mathematics minor, was selected for this prestigious scholarship because of her dedication to advancing national security through technology. She is part of ASU’s Global Security Initiative (GSI), where she works within the Center for Human, AI, and Robot Teaming. The center focuses on developing human-machine systems to advance national security objectives. As part of the program, she will be paired with a faculty mentor for guidance on relevant courses and events, and she will also intern on a national security research project tailored to her interests.

Reflecting on the opportunity, Yadav shared: "With a deep passion for the intersections of artificial intelligence, robotics, and national security, I am thrilled to be part of a program that seeks to address some of the most pressing challenges facing our society today. This opportunity will allow me to sharpen my skills and contribute to the future of national security."

Kenro Kusum, Senior Vice Provost and Dean of The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at ASU, expressed his appreciation for the partnership with the Pallas Foundation: "The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is grateful to be a part of the Pallas Foundation’s efforts to support students and future leaders from groups historically underrepresented in national security fields. This partnership aligns with our efforts to provide unmatched access and create supportive learning environments for all students."

Sue Gordon, President of the Pallas Foundation Board, emphasized the importance of this initiative: "National security demands are becoming increasingly complex, and solving them requires innovation and a diversity of perspectives. The Mullen Scholarship partnership between Arizona State University and the Pallas Foundation offers students like Arya the chance to drive solutions for our country’s security while developing essential skills for their careers."
